Debugging Nightmare - Week 3

Hello again! This has been another tough week of preparations for our next pitch (Today on June 4th), but we've done a lot of programming, a lot of art design, and a LOT of talking. Additionally, we've been encountering a few issues that we're working to resolve, including the highlighting feature no longer working for most users and the issue of shooting through mirrors. Either way, here is our work for this week of May 28- June 4:

Gameplay:

  • We've been having a lot of discussion on how to make puzzles more interesting with the swaps, and we've decided the direction we want to go is with having environmental and object interactions play a major role.
  • There has been a lot of discussion on how to improve mirrors, whether we should use reflection probes, cameras, or some post-processing. For now, we've stuck with using the camera.
  • One last thing to fix with swapping is still getting the outlines to work, and afterwards, all gameplay focus will be on object and environmental mechanics.

Art:

  • More art design ideas for making the Victorian era vibes get where we want it to be.
  • We made our first couple of passes for our character, still undecided on what exactly we want but we want to have a ponytail as well as the iconic large bow.
  • Finally, we've been talking with our resident musician, and we should be getting (the most basic version of) some music by the alpha build!

Design:

  • Just to reiterate, since we are moving forward with environmental and object interactions, a lot of level design will depend on it.
  • Some of the more basic ideas we've come up with could be needing a candle to become small somewhere to light it, then large for it to melt something, or have ice that needs to be melted to become water with a reflection that you can use to swap.
  • Another example could be wooden barriers that you need to set up a large enough magnifying glass to burn through.
